Oil Painting

Oil painting is the process of painting with dry pigments and a drying oil which might include linseed oil, poppy seed oil, walnut oil, and safflower oil. The colours are excellent and the paints are slow drying so you can remove them while wet or you can paint over when dry.

Oil paint is thick and come in tubes which are squeezed out onto a palette where they are mixed together with a palette knife to give the various colours

As oil paints are slow drying it can take days before you apply another coat. However, it does mean that you have time to modify a painting before it dries.

Once the painting has dried for three to six months, a varnish is applied to protect it.
